An interesting story is making its way around the blogging world. Apparently there were around 12,000 American flags that went unused at the Democratic National Convention. These flags were then bundled into trash bags and, as reported, were intended to be picked up and sent to the landfill.
Some have argued that the flags were only placed in the bags for storage.
I don't know the veracity of either claim. At best, this is simply a colossal waste of funds by the Obama campaign. Can you imagine how much 12,000 American flags cost? (Answer: $21,450). If Sen. Obama is going to run the federal government as his campaign ran the convention, we're in for an incredibly wasteful government.
In either case, give credit to the Colorado Republican Party which put the flags to good use, distributing them at a rally today for John McCain. [sarcasm] I know, Republicans recycling... heaven forbid that we actually care about the environment and stewardship!?! [/sarcasm]
At worst, this is severely un-patriotic. Note: I'm not calling Sen. Obama un-patriotic. I mean only to say that throwing out 12,000 flags in the trash is un-patriotic (not to mention possibly illegal). This is simply suggests an incredibly irreverent campaign by Senator Obama... not that we should be surprised what with the faux Obama presidential seal and all.
What I do know for certain, the picture looks awfully damning.
