Freedom Tower

If you haven't heard, the name for the skyscraper being built to replace the World Trade Center has been officially changed. The first conception following 9/11 was to build the tallest tower in the world, in defiance of tyranny. Apropos, the name was to be "Freedom Tower".

Personally, I thought this was a very good name. However, it was apparently "unmarketable". Given that this building was to be built in defiance of unrepentant and determined terrorists--not exactly something you put on the marketing brochure--the difficulty in marketing this Manhattan office space is understandable.

Due to these difficulties, the name has reverted to the original "One World Trade Center". Some have attacked this name change as "unpatriotic"(see: Former Gov. Pataki). Others have asserted that the official name doesn't matter, that the public will call it whatever they feel like calling it (see: Mayor Bloomberg). I would note that if the point is to avoid terrorist attacks, choosing the name of a building that has been attacked and destroyed by terrorist attacks isn't a good idea. However, the New York Times clearly disagrees with me (surprising?)

Another suspicious reason for the name change might be the new tenants: a Chinese corporation. Not too much freedom there. Indeed, "World Trade" does sound a bit more fitting for this foreign tenant.

Yet, as noted here and here, given our current economic philosophy of regulating things until they are dead and bailing out everything in sight it maybe difficult to assert that our Nation still deserves a finance center named "Freedom tower".

I'm thinking a name revolving on "subsidy" or "regulatory tower" might be a bit more on point. Any suggestions?
